Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey), breaking it apart with a spoon until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir the spaghetti sauce and Italian spices into the cooked meat in the skillet. Set aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix together the cottage cheese, shredded mozzarella, and egg until well blended.
  5. Spread approximately 1/4 of the meat sauce mixture on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish (or 7x11x3 inch pan).
  6. Place one layer of uncooked lasagna noodles across the bottom of the pan, breaking pieces if necessary to fit.
  7. Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture over the noodles.
  8. Layer 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce over the cheese.
  9. Add a second layer of noodles, followed by the remaining cottage cheese mixture and another 1/3 of the meat sauce.
  10. Top with the final layer of noodles and cover completely with the remaining meat sauce.
  11. Sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  12. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  13. Bake covered for 1 hour.
  14. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
  15. Insert a knife into the center to ensure the noodles are tender and cooked through. If not, cover and bake 5-10 more minutes.
  16. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
