Old Fashioned Cinnamon Buns
Description
These Old Fashioned Cinnamon Buns are the ultimate comfort food, offering a perfect balance of chewy dough and sweet, spicy filling. The dough is enriched with milk and butter, resulting in a soft, pillowy texture that rises beautifully. Each bun is packed with a generous layer of brown sugar, cinnamon, plump raisins, and crunchy walnuts for a delightful contrast in texture. Topped with a simple powdered sugar glaze, these buns are best enjoyed warm, straight from the oven.Ingredients
Directions
-
In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, salt, yeast, and 1 cup of flour.
-
In a saucepan, heat the milk and 1/4 cup butter until warm (120 to 130°F); the butter does not need to melt entirely.
-
Using a mixer at low speed, beat the warm liquid mixture into the dry ingredients until blended.
-
Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
-
Beat in the egg and 1 cup of flour; continue beating for 2 minutes.
-
Stir in 1 1/2 cups of flour.
-
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes, adding more flour (about 1/4 cup) while kneading if necessary.
-
Shape dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, and turn dough over so the top is greased.
-
Cover and let rise in a warm place (85°F), free from drafts, for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
-
Punch down the dough, turn onto a floured surface, cover, and let rest for 15 minutes.
-
Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan.
-
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, walnuts, raisins, and cinnamon.
-
Melt the remaining 1/4 cup of butter.
-
On a floured surface, roll the dough into an 18x12 inch rectangle.
-
Brush the dough with the melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with the sugar mixture.
-
Starting with the 18-inch side, roll up the dough in a jelly-roll fashion and pinch the seam to seal.
-
With the seam-side down, cut the roll crosswise into 18 slices and place them in the prepared pan, cut side down.
-
Cover and let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes.
-
Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated 400°F (204°C) oven.
-
Cool slightly, then mix powdered sugar and water until smooth and brush over the tops of the buns.
