Description

This Orange Bread is a delightful fusion of classic yeast bread techniques and bright citrus flavor. The dough is enriched with butter and egg, creating a tender, slightly sweet crumb that stands out from standard white breads. Zest and fresh orange juice are incorporated directly into the mix, ensuring every bite carries a subtle, aromatic punch. It has a lovely golden crust and a soft, chewy interior, making it perfect for serving warm with butter at breakfast or as a side to soups and stews for dinner.

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let stand until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add bread flour, salt, sugar, orange peel, egg, butter, and orange juice to the yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down dough to release air bubbles.
  7. Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  8. Cover and let rise again until nearly doubled, about 45 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
