Description

These warm fig tartlets are a stunning display of sweet and savory harmony, perfect for an appetizer or light dinner. The tender pastry cradles ripe, caramelized figs that burst with natural sweetness, balanced beautifully by the salty, delicate ham. A sprinkle of fennel seeds adds a subtle anise note, while a drizzle of olive oil ties the flavors together. Ideal for entertaining or a romantic meal, these tartlets require minimal effort but deliver maximum impact. Serve them warm for the best texture and flavor experience.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400&# 194;°F (200ðC) and grease a baking sheet or tart pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and melted butter. Add sugar, eggs, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for one minute until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into four equal portions and shape each into a ball.
  5. Wrap the dough balls in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes to rest.
  6. Meanwhile, halve the fresh figs and set aside.
  7. Remove dough from fridge and roll each portion into a 4-5 inch circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Place the dough circles on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Arrange the fig halves cut-side up on each dough circle.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-22 minutes, until the pastry is golden and figs are tender.
  11. Remove from oven and immediately drape two thin slices of Prosciutto di Parma over each tart.
  12. Drizzle lightly with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with fennel seeds.
  13. Transfer to plates and serve warm.
