Description

These San Antonio Style Chicken Wings offer a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors. The wings are marinated in a zesty blend of Pace Picante sauce, ketchup, honey, and cumin, then baked until tender and juicy. A final broil caramelizes the glaze for a sticky, irresistible finish. Served alongside a cooling dip made from sour cream and extra picante sauce, these wings are ideal for game day parties, casual weeknight dinners, or potlucks. The combination of crisp skin and moist meat makes them a crowd-pleaser that delivers bold Tex-Mex inspired taste without the mess of deep frying.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375&# 194;°F (190ðC).
  2. Cut chicken wings in half at the joints and discard the wing tips.
  3. In a large bowl, combine 1/3 cup of the picante sauce, ketchup, honey, and cumin.
  4. Add chicken wings to the bowl and toss to coat evenly in the marinade.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, turning the wings once during marination.
  6. Remove wings from refrigerator and drain, reserving the marinade in a small bowl.
  7. Place a rack in a foil-lined broiler pan or baking sheet.
  8. Arrange wings on the rack in a single layer.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  10. Brush wings generously with reserved marinade, turn them over, and brush the other side.
  11. Continue baking, brushing with marinade every 10 minutes, for another 30 minutes or until wings are tender and cooked through.
  12. Preheat the broiler. Move oven rack to about 6 inches from the heat source.
  13. Broil wings for 2 to 3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning, until the sauce is caramelized and looks dry.
  14. Flip wings and broil the other side for 2 to 3 minutes until caramelized.
  15. Meanwhile, spoon sour cream into a serving bowl and top with the remaining 2/3 cup of picante sauce.
  16. Serve hot wings immediately with the creamy picante dipping sauce.

Note

Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350ðF for 10-15 minutes to restore crispiness.

You can substitute Pace Picante sauce with your favorite brand of mild or medium salsa. For a dairy-free dip, use cashew cream or coconut yogurt instead of sour cream.

Keep a close eye on the wings during the broiling step, as the honey in the glaze can burn quickly. If the wings are not fully cooked after the first broil, return to the oven at 375ðF for a few more minutes before broiling the second side.

For extra heat, add a teaspoon of chili powder or cayenne to the marinade. You can also toss the wings with a little cornstarch before baking for extra crispy skin.
