Description

This Sauteed Shrimp Sauce is a vibrant, weeknight-friendly dish that combines tender, garlic-kissed shrimp with a rich, simmered tomato and white wine sauce. The dish features a pleasant kick of heat from crushed red pepper flakes, balanced by the sweetness of canned tomatoes and fresh herbs. Perfect for serving over penne pasta, it offers a satisfying texture and deep, savory flavor profile. Ideal for busy evenings when you crave restaurant-quality results with minimal effort, this recipe brings home-style comfort to your table. The combination of olive oil, garlic, and wine creates an aromatic base that coats the pasta beautifully, making every bite flavorful and cohesive.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a boil over high heat.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with 1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and saut until just cooked through, about 2 minutes.
  5. Remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the oil in the pan.
  6. Add the chopped onion to the same skillet and saut until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  7. Add the diced tomatoes with their juices, white wine, garlic, and oregano to the skillet.
  8. Simmer the sauce until it thickens slightly, about 10 minutes.
  9. Meanwhile, add the penne pasta to the boiling salted water and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender but still firm to the bite, about 8 minutes.
  10. Drain the pasta well.
  11. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce and stir to coat evenly.
  12. Return the cooked shrimp and any accumulated juices to the skillet and stir to combine.
  13. Remove the pan from the heat and toss in the chopped parsley and basil.
  14. Season with additional salt to taste and serve immediately.

Note

Do not add olive oil to the pasta cooking water; it makes the pasta slippery and prevents the sauce from adhering properly.

Use good quality pasta for the best texture.

If you prefer a less spicy dish, reduce the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon or omit entirely.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of water or wine to refresh the sauce.
