Savory Stuffed Bread Snacks
Description
These Savory Stuffed Bread Snacks are a classic homemade appetizer featuring a rich, creamy filling of braunschweiger (liver sausage) and cream cheese. The filling is enhanced with finely shredded carrots, fresh parsley, green onions, and a hint of lemon juice for brightness. The mixture is packed into hollowed-out sandwich rolls, which are then chilled to set. The result is a smooth, savory bite that offers a wonderful contrast between the soft, toasted bread crust and the dense, flavorful filling. Perfect for holiday parties, potlucks, or as a sophisticated snack, these can be made ahead of time, making them a stress-free option for entertaining. They pair beautifully with a glass of wine or beer.Ingredients
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350&# 194;°F (177ðC).
-
Cut about 1/2 inch off both ends of each sandwich roll and discard the ends.
-
Using a teaspoon, carefully remove the bread from inside the rolls, leaving about 1/4 inch of crusty shell; set the hollowed shells aside.
-
Crumble the soft removed bread pieces and spread them on a cookie sheet.
-
Toast the bread crumbs in the oven at 350ðF (177ðC) for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown, then remove and let cool completely.
-
In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and braunschweiger; beat until smooth and well blended.
-
Stir in the cooled bread crumbs, shredded carrots, parsley, green onions, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce by hand until evenly combined.
-
Spoon about 1 cup of the filling mixture into each bread shell, pressing gently but firmly to remove air pockets and ensure the filling is compact.
-
Wrap the filled shells tightly in plastic wrap or place them in an airtight plastic bag.
-
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until serving time to allow the filling to set.
-
To serve, unwrap the rolls and slice into 3/8 inch thick rounds.
