Simple Chili
Description
This robust Simple Chili is a comforting staple that transforms humble ingredients into a rich, flavorful meal. The blend of coarsely ground meat, aromatic spices like cumin and chili powder, and a hint of Tabasco creates a complex taste profile that is both savory and slightly spicy. Slow simmering allows the flavors to meld beautifully, resulting in a thick, hearty texture that is perfect for cold evenings. It is an ideal dish for weeknight dinners, potlucks, or meal prepping, as it tastes even better the next day. Serve it hot with saltine crackers or over rice for a satisfying, home-style experience that the whole family will love.Ingredients
Directions
-
Brown the coarsely ground chili meat in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
-
Once the meat is browned, drain the excess fat and grease from the pot.
-
Rinse the cooked meat briefly with hot water using a strainer to remove additional grease, then return the meat to the pot.
-
Add the onion salt, garlic powder, chili powder, ground cumin, Tabasco sauce, tomato sauce, and water to the pot.
-
Stir well to combine all ingredients, then bring the mixture to a boil.
-
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the chili simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
-
Stir occasionally during cooking. If using whole tomatoes, chop them as they cook to break them down.
-
If the chili is too thin, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir it in during the last 30 minutes of cooking to thicken.
-
Serve hot with saltine crackers.

Note
For a heartier texture, you can add 15 oz of canned whole tomatoes (drained) along with the tomato sauce.
To adjust the thickness, mix 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch with a small amount of cold water and stir into the chili during the last 30 minutes of simmering if a thicker consistency is desired.
This chili tastes even better after sitting for a day, making it great for meal prep. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
Adjust the amount of Tabasco sauce to suit your preferred heat level.
