Description

Snackeroons are a delightful fusion of textures, combining the crunch of rice crispies with the savory depth of cheddar cheese and crispy bacon. These bite-sized appetizers are perfect for game day gatherings, holiday parties, or as a unique starter to kick off a dinner. The addition of walnuts adds a pleasant nuttiness, while garlic salt ties the flavors together. Simple to prepare yet impressive in taste, they offer a satisfying crunch in every bite. Whether served warm from the oven or at room temperature, Snackeroons are sure to disappear quickly and become a favorite addition to your snack repertoire.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375&# 194;°F (190ðC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, garlic salt, softened butter, grated cheddar cheese, and bacon drippings (or oil). Mix until a cohesive dough forms.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, one teaspoon at a time, mixing gently until the dough holds together but is not sticky.
  4. Fold in the rice crispies, crushed walnuts, and crushed bacon pieces, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  7. Allow the Snackeroons to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Note

Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing. If the dough is too dry, add an additional teaspoon of ice water. If too sticky, add a sprinkle of flour.

For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and bacon drippings, and use vegetable oil instead. You may also add extra walnuts for crunch.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore crispiness.

These can be frozen unbaked for up to 3 months. Bake directly from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.
