Sweet & Spicy Spareribs
Description
These Sweet & Spicy Spareribs are a backyard barbecue classic that balances tangy tomato sauce, bright orange juice, and a kick of jalapeño heat. The ribs are first blanched to ensure tenderness, then brushed with a warm, honey-infused glaze before hitting the grill. The result is meat that is incredibly juicy, slightly charred, and coated in a sticky, flavorful sauce. Perfect for summer cookouts, family gatherings, or a special weekend dinner.Ingredients
Directions
-
Preheat your barbecue grill to medium-low heat.
-
In a large pot of boiling water, blanch the spareribs for 15 minutes to tenderize them.
-
While the ribs are blanching, combine the tomato sauce, garlic, dry mustard, rosemary, jalapeño, oregano, honey, and orange juice in a small saucepan.
-
Cook the sauce mixture over very low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and fragrant.
-
Drain the blanched ribs thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels.
-
Place the ribs on the hot grill, partly covering the grill lid to maintain consistent heat.
-
Brush the ribs generously with the warm sauce mixture.
-
Grill the ribs for approximately 30 minutes, turning them frequently to prevent burning.
-
Baste the ribs with remaining sauce occasionally during the grilling process.
-
Season with salt and pepper to taste just before serving.

Note
For extra tender ribs, you can wrap the blanched ribs in foil with a little water and steam them on the grill for 10 minutes before applying the sauce.
Adjust the amount of jalapeño based on your preferred heat level. Remove seeds for milder flavor.
If the sauce burns on the grill, reserve some of the cooked sauce from the saucepan to baste with instead.
Leftover ribs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
