This classic Avery Island-style barbecue sauce delivers a perfect balance of heat, tang, and sweetness. Built on a foundation of ripe canned tomatoes, it features the distinct kick of Tabasco pepper sauce, balanced by the acidity of red wine vinegar and lemon. The sweetness comes from molasses, while a blend of dry mustard, cloves, and allspice adds depth and aromatic complexity. Simmered with sautéed onions, celery, green peppers, and garlic, the sauce thickens into a glossy, rich glaze. It is ideal for brushing on ribs, chicken, or hamburgers during the last few minutes of grilling or broiling. Serve extra sauce on the side for dipping. This versatile vegetarian sauce brings a robust, home-style flavor to any barbecue gathering or weeknight dinner.
