  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 4 cinnamon sticks, 3 lemon slices, and 1/2 cup of water.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to create a spiced syrup.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and strain out the cinnamon sticks, lemon slices, and any seeds.
  5. In a large pot or heatproof pitcher, combine the 2 cups of pineapple juice, 2 cups of orange juice, 1/2 cup of lemon juice, 6 cups of claret wine, and 1 cup of dry sherry.
  6. Heat the fruit and wine mixture over low heat until it is very warm but not boiling.
  7. Stir the prepared spiced syrup into the warm fruit and wine mixture.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Do not boil the wine and fruit mixture, as high heat can cause the alcohol to evaporate and the flavors to become harsh. Keep the temperature just below a simmer.
