This classic Italian dessert is a dreamy assembly of textures and flavors. The star is the zabaglione, a silky mixture of egg yolks, sugar, and Marsala wine, enriched with melted chocolate and whipped egg whites. It’s layered with espresso-dipped ladyfingers and whipped cream, creating a moist, indulgent treat that tastes like a warm hug. The bittersweet chocolate cuts through the richness, while the coffee provides a robust backbone. Best served chilled after resting, it’s perfect for romantic dinners, holiday gatherings, or simply treating yourself to a slice of heaven. No baking required, just love and patience.

Directions
-
Melt the chocolate in the butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave. Set aside to cool slightly.
-
In a heatproof bowl set over simmering water (double boiler), whip the egg yolks until light. Add the sugar and beat until the mixture is slightly thickened, fluffy, and light.
-
Slowly add the Marsala wine to the yolk mixture, whipping constantly. This creates the zabaglione base.
-
Remove from heat and fold in the cooled chocolate mixture. Set this chocolate-zabaglione aside.
-
In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
-
Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate-zabaglione mixture until just blended.
-
In a separate bowl, whip the mascarpone cheese (or cream cheese) until smooth.
-
In a small bowl, mix the cooled espresso with about 2 tablespoons of sugar.
-
Line the bottom of a pretty glass bowl or serving dish with a layer of ladyfingers, dipping them briefly into the coffee mixture.
-
Spread a layer of the whipped mascarpone cheese mixture over the ladyfingers.
-
Add a layer of the chocolate-zabaglione mixture.
-
Add a layer of whipped cream.
-
Repeat the layers (ladyfingers, cheese, chocolate, cream) twice more.
-
End with a final layer of whipped cream and dust lightly with cocoa powder.
-
Refrigerate for several hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
Note
For best results, let the tiramisu rest in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, increase the amount of sugar in the espresso dip or use a stronger brew.
Mascarpone provides the traditional creamy texture; if using cream cheese, ensure it is softened for easier whipping.
Ensure all equipment for whipping egg whites is completely clean and grease-free for best volume.
