  2. Cut potatoes into very thin slices.
  3. Slice onions thinly and separate into rings.
  4. Grease a 3- to 3-1/2 pint heatproof dish.
  5. Fill the dish with alternate layers of potatoes, onion rings, and cheddar cheese, beginning and ending with a layer of potatoes.
