Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan and line the bottom with waxed paper; grease the paper lightly as well.
-
Peel the orange, remove any pith, and slice thinly across the sections into neat rounds. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, cream the margarine and sugars together until light and fluffy.
-
Beat in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
-
Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with 1/2 cup of the sour cream and the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
-
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
-
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
-
Once cool, carefully remove the cake from the pan. Cut the cake in half horizontally to create two layers.
-
Spread the remaining 3/4 cup of sour cream evenly over the bottom layer.
-
Arrange the sliced orange rounds on top of the sour cream layer.
-
Place the top cake layer over the oranges and sour cream.
-
Garnish individual servings with additional sour cream and fresh orange slices before serving.
