Description

These White Chocolate Mousse Cups are the perfect ending to a special dinner, offering a sophisticated yet approachable dessert experience. The recipe features rich, creamy white chocolate melted gently with heavy cream and a hint of vanilla to create a luscious, smooth mousse. This airy filling is nestled inside delicate, crisp chocolate shells formed from semi-sweet chocolate and shortening, providing a beautiful contrast in texture and flavor. The sweet, buttery notes of the white chocolate complement the deeper, slightly bitter tones of the dark chocolate cups. Ideal for holidays, romantic evenings, or any occasion where you want to impress guests with minimal effort, these individual servings are easy to assemble and store. They bring a touch of bakery-style elegance to your home kitchen without requiring complex techniques or expensive equipment.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Combine white chocolate chips and heavy cream in a small heavy saucepan over the lowest heat.
  2. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the mixture into a large bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap.
  5. Refrigerate, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours or until the mixture is very cold.
  6. Meanwhile, melt semi-sweet chocolate squares and vegetable shortening together in a medium heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  7. Place two foil cupcake liners in each of 8 muffin-pan cups.
  8. Spoon 1.5 tablespoons of the melted chocolate mixture into each set of liners.
  9. Remove the liners from the muffin pan and place them in the palm of your hand.
  10. Rotate gently, using a brush or rubber spatula to push the chocolate up the sides of the liner to form a cup.
  11. Return the coated liners to the muffin cup and repeat with the remaining liners.
  12. If the chocolate is too thin, let it stand until slightly thickened, then recoat the cups with any accumulated chocolate.
  13. Refrigerate the chocolate cups until firm, at least 1 hour.
  14. Peel the foil liners away from the chocolate shells and return the shells to the pan.
  15. Refrigerate the shells until ready to use.
  16. Beat the chilled white chocolate mousse mixture on high speed until stiff peaks form.
  17. Spoon slightly rounded 1/3 cup portions of the mousse into each chocolate shell.
  18. Garnish as desired and serve immediately or chill until ready to eat.

Note

Store assembled mousse cups in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. For best texture, allow them to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

You can substitute the vegetable shortening with an equal amount of unsalted butter for a richer flavor in the chocolate cups.

Ensure the white chocolate mixture is very cold before whipping it to ensure proper stiffness and volume. If your kitchen is warm, place the bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes before whipping.

To make the chocolate cups easier, you can also use silicone molds instead of foil liners and hand-shaping.

Garnish suggestions include fresh raspberries, mint leaves, or shaved dark chocolate for visual contrast.
