  1. Place the soaked and drained chickpeas and 8 cups of water in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.

  4. Add the chopped onions, garlic, and finely chopped hot pepper to the pan.
