This classic Eastern European bread is a showstopper for brunch or special holidays. The tender, slightly sweet dough is generously filled with a mixture of semi-sweet chocolate, sugar, and warm cinnamon, then twisted before baking to create beautiful marbled layers. A buttery streusel topping adds a delightful crunch and extra sweetness to every slice. While the process involves some time for rising, the result is an irresistible treat with a soft, fluffy texture and intense chocolate flavor. It pairs perfectly with coffee or tea, making it an ideal centerpiece for weekend mornings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare the streusel by whisking together flour and sugar in a small bowl.
  2. Drizzle melted butter into the dry ingredients and mix with fingertips until uneven crumbs form.
  3. Refrigerate the streusel mixture until ready to use.
  4. Combine the grated semi-sweet chocolate, sugar, and cinnamon in a separate bowl for the filling.
  5. Brush a standard loaf pan with melted butter.
  6. Roll the chilled Danish dough into a rectangle measuring approximately 9 by 22 inches.
  7. Brush the dough generously with melted butter, leaving a 1/2 inch border along one long edge.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate mixture evenly over the buttered dough, keeping the border free.
  9. Sprinkle half of the prepared streusel over the chocolate layer.
  10. Starting from the long edge opposite the border, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  11. Slice the log in half lengthwise to expose the chocolate swirls.
  12. Twist the two halves together loosely and place them in the prepared pan.
  13. Sprinkle the remaining streusel over the top of the twisted dough.
  14. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  15. Bake at 350&# 194;°F (175ðC) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  16. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
