Ingredients

Directions

  1. Finely chop 4 or 5 inexpensive hot dogs using a food processor or knife until they resemble coarse ground meat.
  2. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt the butter and margarine over medium heat.
  3. Add the lean ground beef and chopped hot dogs to the pan; cook without browning, breaking up the meat as it heats.
  4. Stir in the minced onions and garlic, cooking until the onions begin to soften.
  5. Add 3 tablespoons of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of prepared mustard, and 1 can (6 oz) of tomato paste.
  6. Pour in 1 can (6 oz) of water and stir well to combine all ingredients.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  9. Serve hot over grilled hot dogs, topped with chopped onions and mustard.
  10. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freeze for later use.
