Description

These Crackling Triangles are the ultimate comfort food snack, featuring a crispy, golden exterior that gives way to a rich, savory filling. The blend of minced beef, aromatic five-spice powder, ginger, and chili creates a deeply flavorful bite that is both spicy and sweet. Wrapped in thin spring roll pastry, they fry up incredibly crunchy, making them perfect for sharing at parties or enjoying as a hearty appetizer. The contrast between the delicate, shattering crust and the moist, spiced meat filling is irresistible. They pair wonderfully with a dipping sauce of sweet chili or soy vinegar. This recipe brings authentic Chinese-inspired flavors to your kitchen with minimal effort, resulting in a dish that feels luxurious yet is simple enough for a weeknight treat or game day spread.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Marinate the minced beef with soy sauce, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of dry sherry, and 2 tablespoons of water for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok and sauté the grated shallot, crushed garlic, and chopped onion until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped red chili, grated ginger, and marinated beef to the wok.
  4. Fry the mixture until the meat is cooked through and dry, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  5. Pour in the remaining sherry, sugar, water, five-spice powder, paprika, and seasoning to taste.
  6. Remove the filling from heat and set aside to cool completely.
  7. Cut the spring roll pastry sheets into long strips about 3-3.5 cm (1 1/4-1 1/2 inches) wide.
  8. Place a generous teaspoon of the cooled beef mixture onto the bottom corner of a pastry strip.
  9. Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle, then fold again from the opposite side.
  10. Continue folding the dough over itself until the filling is completely enclosed in a triangular shape.
  11. Tuck the end neatly and repeat until all filling and pastry are used.
  12. Heat oil for deep frying to 190ðC (375ðF).
  13. Deep fry the triangles until they are crisp and golden brown.
  14. Drain on absorbent kitchen paper and serve immediately.
