Description

This luxurious Dark Chocolate Creme Brulee is the ultimate indulgent dessert for special occasions. The custard is deeply flavored with semisweet chocolate, a hint of instant espresso, and a splash of coffee liqueur, creating a complex and sophisticated profile. The texture is incredibly silky and smooth, offering a decadent contrast to the shattering crispness of the torched sugar top. It requires patience for chilling and setting, but the result is a show-stopping finale to any dinner party. Serve with fresh strawberries and whipped cream for a beautiful presentation that balances the intense richness of the chocolate. This recipe transforms simple ingredients into an elegant, restaurant-quality treat that feels both comforting and celebratory.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Stir whipping cream, semisweet chocolate, and instant espresso powder in the top of a double boiler over simmering water until the mixture is completely smooth and melted.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and coffee liqueur together until well combined.
  3. Whisk half of the hot chocolate mixture into the egg yolk mixture to temper the eggs, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the double boiler with the remaining chocolate mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl to ensure a silky texture.
  6. Divide the mixture evenly among eight 3/4-cup ramekins.
  7. Cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or until set.
  8. Preheat the broiler.
  9. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sugar evenly over the top of each chilled custard.
  10. Broil the ramekins about 2 inches from the heat source until the sugar melts and caramelizes, watching carefully to prevent burning, about 30 seconds.
  11. Let the brulees cool until the sugar crust hardens.
  12. Spoon whipped cream into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
  13. Pipe a rosette of whipped cream onto each dessert.
  14. Garnish with strawberry halves and serve immediately.
