Description

This hearty lasagna combines savory lean ground beef with a robust tomato sauce infused with garlic, oregano, and rosemary. The layers of tender noodles, rich meat sauce, and creamy ricotta cheese create a comforting dish that is perfect for family dinners or potlucks. Baked until golden and bubbly, it offers a satisfying texture and deep, aromatic flavors. Ideal for a cozy weeknight meal or when you want to treat your loved ones to a homemade Italian classic.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon.
  2. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the beef and sauté until onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, mushrooms, oregano, rosemary, basil, MSG, salt, and sugar.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer the sauce for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. Meanwhile, cook lasagne noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water, and separate the noodles.
  6. Preheat oven to 350ðF (175ðC). Butter a 3-quart baking dish.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.
  8. Layer half of the cooked noodles over the sauce.
  9. Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the noodles.
  10. Top with half of the remaining meat sauce.
  11. Add half of the mozzarella slices.
  12. Sprinkle with half of the grated Parmesan cheese.
  13. Repeat the layers with the remaining noodles, ricotta, meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  14. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Note

Allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to help it set.

If using dried herbs instead of fresh, use 1/4 teaspoon of dried basil and adjust other dried herbs accordingly.

For a richer sauce, you can add a splash of red wine during the simmering process.

Ensure noodles are well-separated after rinsing to prevent sticking during assembly.
