Description

This robust granola mix is the ultimate breakfast staple, combining old-fashioned rolled oats with wheat germ, shredded coconut, and a generous handful of sunflower and sesame seeds. The dry ingredients are bound together by a rich, sweet syrup made from honey, molasses, and vegetable oil, creating clusters that are both crunchy and satisfying. Baked at a low temperature to ensure even toasting without burning, this mix develops a deep, caramelized flavor profile enhanced by warm cinnamon and vanilla. Its perfect for pouring over yogurt, mixing into smoothie bowls, or enjoying straight from the jar with milk. Make a big batch to keep on hand for quick, nutritious mornings or healthy snacking throughout the week.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300F (150C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine oats, wheat germ, shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and chopped nuts. Stir until well blended.
  3. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, vegetable oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  4. Heat the wet mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Do not let it boil.
  5. Pour the syrup over the dry ingredients and stir thoroughly until all oats and nuts are evenly coated.
  6. Spread the mixture onto five 13x9-inch baking pans or lined cookie sheets with sides.
  7. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even browning.
  8. For a crunchier texture, bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, add raisins or other dried fruit if desired.
