Description

This Imperial Sesame Fish is a vibrant Chinese-inspired side dish that balances savory, sweet, and tangy flavors. Featuring fresh fish fillets brushed with a aromatic blend of soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, and ground sesame seeds, this recipe delivers a tender texture with a sticky, flavorful glaze. The quick broiling method ensures the fish remains moist while developing a slight char. The accompanying thickened sauce, enriched with cornstarch and fresh green onions, adds a velvety finish. Perfect for weeknight dinners or as an elegant accompaniment to steamed rice and vegetables, this dish brings restaurant-quality taste to your home kitchen with simple, accessible ingredients.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Place toasted sesame seeds in a blender and process for about 10 seconds until finely ground.
  2. Add soy sauce, distilled white vinegar, minced ginger, and sugar to the blender with the ground sesame seeds.
  3. Process the sauce mixture for about 15 seconds, scraping down the sides once, until well combined.
  4. Remove 3 tablespoons of the sauce mixture from the blender and set aside for basting.
  5. Combine the remaining sauce in the blender with water in a small saucepan and set aside.
  6. Generously brush both sides of the fish fillets with the reserved 3 tablespoons of sauce mixture.
  7. Preheat the broiler and place the fish on a broiler pan or baking sheet.
  8. Broil the fish for about 5 minutes, or until it flakes easily when tested with a fork.
  9. Meanwhile, blend the cornstarch into the sauce mixture in the saucepan until smooth.
  10. Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  11. Cook and stir the sauce for 1 to 2 minutes until it thickens.
  12. Stir the chopped green onion into the thickened sauce.
  13. Spoon the hot sauce over the cooked fish fillets just before serving.
