  3. add the diced onions and
  4. cook until they turn clear,
  5. add garlic , parsley, tomatoes, pepper, salt and

  8. Reduce heat, cover pot and simmer for 1 to 2 hrs or until meat is tender.
  9. Stir and skim off any fat that rises.
  10. While meat is cooking, cut cabbage into quarters (removing core) and then shred it.
  11. In a separate frying pan, cook cabbage in 3 t.
  12. of oil with vinegar and brown sugar.
  13. Stir frequently until cabbage begins to brown.
  14. Add the cabbage mixture to main pot.
  15. Cook additional 45 min.
  16. to 1 hr.
  17. For additional flavor add potatoes and carrots, especially if you have a crowd to feed.
  18. Goes well with black bread or even Challah.
