Description

This low-fat lasagna swaps heavy cream and full-fat cheeses for lean ground turkey, nonfat ricotta, and shredded mozzarella, without sacrificing flavor. The heart of the dish is a slow-simmered tomato sauce infused with fresh basil, garlic, and onions, providing a robust, savory base. Layers of tender pasta noodles alternate with this rich meat sauce and a light, creamy cheese filling. It is a hearty, satisfying meal that feels indulgent yet keeps things lighter. Perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prepping, it stores well and reheats beautifully, making it a family-friendly favorite that brings home-style comfort to your table.

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large nonstick pot over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and cook until transparent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add chopped garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, and half of the basil.
  6. Simmer the sauce uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, shredded mozzarella, parsley, and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente; drain and rinse with cold water.
  10. Spread a ladleful of meat sauce on the bottom of a 12x9-inch baking dish.
  11. Layer noodles over the sauce, followed by a layer of the ricotta mixture and optional vegetables.
  12. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of sauce and remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  13. Cover dish tightly with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  14. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  15. Let lasagna stand for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
