Description

Indulge in these luxurious Mayan Truffles, a decadent dessert that marries the deep richness of semi-sweet chocolate with the bold kick of instant coffee and a splash of coffee liqueur. These truffles are incredibly smooth and creamy, offering a sophisticated flavor profile that is both comforting and exciting. Perfect for special occasions, holiday gifts, or simply treating yourself to a moment of pure joy, they come together easily with pantry staples. The combination of melted chocolate, whipped cream, and aromatic coffee creates a dense yet melt-in-your-mouth texture that is simply irresistible. Dust them with cocoa powder for an elegant finish that looks as good as it tastes.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Bring the whipping cream to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately add the 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips and the instant coffee.
  3. Cover the saucepan and let it sit undisturbed for 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
  4. Remove the lid and stir the mixture gently until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is smooth.
  5. Stir in the coffee liqueur until well combined.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for 2 hours, or until firm enough to shape.
  7. Scoop small portions of the chilled ganache and roll them into balls using your hands or a melon baller.
  8. Place the formed truffle balls on trays lined with wax paper and freeze for 15-20 minutes to firm up.
  9. Meanwhile, melt the remaining 6 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate pieces in a small bowl or double boiler.
  10. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly so it is thick but still liquid.
  11. Dip the frozen truffle balls into the melted chocolate, ensuring they are fully coated.
  12. Roll the coated truffles in cocoa powder to coat evenly.

Note

Storage: Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. For best texture, let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving.

Substitutions: You can replace coffee liqueur with vanilla extract for a milder flavor, or use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet for a richer taste.

Tip: If the ganache is too stiff to roll, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before shaping. If it's too soft, return it to the fridge for another 15 minutes.

Variation: Try rolling the dipped truffles in crushed nuts, sprinkles, or desiccated coconut instead of cocoa powder for different textures and flavors.
