Description

This vibrant No Bake Sauce is a delightful blend of pears, blueberries, and tropical pineapple, thickened naturally with tapioca or cornstarch for a glossy finish. It offers a burst of fresh fruit flavors without the need for refined sugars, relying instead on the natural sweetness of dates and fruit juices. The texture is smooth yet substantial, making it an excellent topping for waffles, pancakes, or oatmeal. It can also be chilled to serve as a quick jam spread or stirred into yogurt for a healthy breakfast boost. Ideal for busy mornings or as a quick dessert accompaniment, this recipe is simple to prepare using pantry staples and fresh or frozen fruit.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Drain the pears, reserving some of the juice if packed in juice. If packed in water, set aside the pears and use pineapple juice instead.
  2. Place the pears and 1 cup of blueberries into a blender. Add the reserved juice or pineapple juice.
  3. Blend until completely smooth.
  4. Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan.
  5. Add the remaining 2 cups of blueberries to the saucepan.
  6. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warm and the berries begin to break down.
  7. If using the tapioca method: Soften the tapioca pearls in the remaining pineapple juice in a separate saucepan for 5 minutes. Cook over medium heat, stirring regularly, until the mixture boils and the tapioca turns clear. Stir this thickened mixture into the fruit sauce.
  8. Alternatively, if using cornstarch: Mix cornstarch with a small amount of pineapple juice to form a paste. Stir into the fruit sauce and cook until clear and thickened.
  9. Stir in the pitted dates, crushed pineapple, coconut, and vanilla.
  10. Add water or additional juice as needed to reach your desired consistency.
  11. Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will thicken further as it chills.
  12. Serve warm or chilled.

Note

Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze in 1/2 cup portions for future use in baking or smoothies.

Variations: You can substitute the dates with other dried fruits like raisins or apricots for a different flavor profile. Swap blueberries for raspberries or strawberries if preferred.

Tip: If the sauce is too thick after chilling, stir in a little warm water or juice to loosen it. If too thin, simmer gently to reduce or add a bit more cornstarch slurry.

Usage: This sauce is versatile; use it as a topping for pancakes, waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, or as a glaze for desserts. It can also be used as a filling for pies or cakes.
