Old-Fashioned Peach Pie recipe image

This old-fashioned peach pie captures the essence of summer in every bite. Juicy, ripe peach slices are tossed with sugar, a touch of flour for thickening, and warm spices like nutmeg or cinnamon to create a luscious filling. The fruit is nestled into a flaky, buttery pastry shell and topped with a beautiful lattice crust that allows the aromatic steam to escape while baking. As it bakes, the juices bubble up, creating a golden, caramelized edge. Serve it warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a comforting, nostalgic dessert. It’s perfect for family gatherings, potlucks, or simply enjoying a slice on the porch after dinner.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ðF (200ðC).
  2. Prepare a plain pie pastry and line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, and nutmeg or cinnamon.
  4. Add the sliced peaches to the dry ingredients and toss gently to coat evenly.
  5. Pour the peach mixture into the pastry-lined pie plate.
  6. Dot the top of the filling with small pieces of butter or margarine.
  7. Cut the remaining dough into strips, 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide, for the lattice top.
  8. Lay half of the strips lengthwise across the pie at 1-inch intervals.
  9. Fold back every other strip, then lay crosswise strips over the remaining dough, placing them on the diagonal.
  10. Unfold the reserved strips over the crosswise strips to complete the weave.
  11. Trim the bottom crust and lattice strips even with the outer rim of the pie plate.
  12. Seal the edges by pressing them together, then crimp with a fork or fingers.
  13. Dampen the edge lightly with water and place an extra strip of dough over it to cover the ends of the lattice, sealing and crimping again.
  14. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  15. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
