-
In a large bowl, combine yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar, and lukewarm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
-
In a saucepan, scald the milk. Remove from heat and add oil, 1/2 cup sugar, and salt. Cool the mixture until it is lukewarm.
-
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and the cooled milk mixture.
-
Add the yeast mixture to the egg and milk mixture. Gradually stir in the flour until a soft dough forms.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
-
Meanwhile, prepare the baking pans: Lightly grease the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle a thin layer of brown sugar on the bottom, followed by chopped pecans. Drizzle with melted butter and light Karo syrup.
-
Punch down the risen dough. Take about one-third of the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
-
Spread the dough with melted butter. Sprinkle generously with white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
-
Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough up into a log. Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices.
-
Place the slices into the prepared pan, seam-side down. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and cooked through.
-
Let the buns stand in the pan for 1 minute. Loosen the edges with a knife, then immediately invert the pan onto a serving platter or wax paper to release the sticky topping.
-
Allow to cool slightly until warm enough to handle, then serve.
