  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the 1/2 c butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds.
  2. Beat in 1 1/2 c sugar till well combined.
  3. Add eggs and beat well.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and undrained pineapple.
  5. Beat well.
  6. Spread in a greased 13x9 pan and sprinkle with brown sugar and pecans.
  7. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 35-40 minutes.
  8. For the topping, in a small saucepan,
  9. stir together the 3/4 c sugar and cornstarch;
  10. add the milk and 1/2 c butter.
  11. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly; cook and stir for 2 more minutes.
  12. Stir in the vanilla.
  13. Cool cake and topping for about 15 minutes.
  14. Spread topping over cake.
  15. Sprinkle with almonds.
