Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease and flour cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together: Baking soda 1 1/2 c Flour, Butter 1 ts Baking powder, Sugar.

In another bowl, cream together: -Boiling water 1 Egg, Dates;chopped 1 ts Vanilla, Butter 1 ts Baking powder.

Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
