  1. Cut the beef in 2-inch cubes and brown with the onions in the fat.
  2. Sprinkle with the salt, pepper and paprika.
  3. Cover and cook over low heat 30 minutes.
  4. Stir in the sauerkraut.
  5. Cook 10 minutes.
  6. Add the bay leaf and water.
  7. Cover and cook an additional 1 1/2 hours.
  8. Remove bay leaf
