Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325&# 194;°F (165ðC).
  2. Wash the turkey thoroughly inside and out, removing any pinfeathers and giblets. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Cut off the wing tips and reserve them for making stock or gravy if desired.
  4. Slice the oranges in half. Squeeze the juice from the oranges over the outside of the turkey and inside the cavity.
  5. Season the inside of the turkey cavity generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Prepare your preferred stuffing and fill the turkey cavity loosely. Do not pack tightly.
  7. Close the cavity with kitchen twine or skewers.
  8. Soften the butter and rub it all over the turkey, including under the skin if possible.
  9. Season the outside of the turkey with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  10. Drape the turkey with cheesecloth to help retain moisture and promote even browning.
  11. Place the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan.
  12. Roast in the preheated oven. Baste every 30 minutes with pan juices or a mixture of melted butter and oil.
  13. Roast for approximately 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165ðF (74ðC) in the thickest part of the thigh and juices run clear.
  14. Remove the turkey from the oven and transfer to a carving board.
  15. Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving to allow juices to redistribute.
  16. Remove stuffing and serve separately if desired.
  17. Carve and serve the turkey on a large platter.
