Description

This elegant yet comforting dish features tender beef fillets resting on golden, mustard-buttered toast, topped with a luxurious whiskey cream sauce. The sauce is a perfect balance of rich dairy, savory beef bouillon, and the warm, smoky depth of whiskey, brightened by a hint of lemon and fresh parsley. It is a satisfying main course that feels special enough for date night but is simple enough for a relaxed weeknight dinner. The combination of the crisp toast and the silky sauce provides a delightful textural contrast.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut bread slices into rounds or shapes roughly the same size as the steaks.
  3. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of butter with the prepared French mustard until smooth.
  4. Brush both sides of the bread slices with the mustard-butter mixture.
  5. Place bread on an oven tray and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Keep warm.
  6. While bread toasts, heat the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Season steaks with salt and pepper. Cook steaks in the skillet according to desired doneness, turning once.
  8. Remove steaks from the pan and place on a plate. Cover loosely with foil to keep warm.
  9. Drain excess fat from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon of fat.
  10. Reduce heat to medium. Add flour and minced shallot to the skillet, stirring constantly for a few seconds to cook the raw flour taste out.
  11. Gradually whisk in water until smooth. Stir in cream, crumbled bouillon cube, whiskey, and lemon juice.
  12. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes until slightly thickened.
  13. Stir in chopped parsley.
  14. Place steaks on top of the toasted bread and spoon the whiskey cream sauce over the steaks. Serve immediately.
