Description

These steamed beef dumplings offer a perfect balance of tender meat and soft, translucent wrappers. The filling combines lean ground beef with aromatic minced ginger, fresh cilantro, and a touch of peanut oil for richness. Cornstarch ensures the filling stays moist and cohesive during cooking. Lightly seasoned with lite soy sauce, these dumplings are hearty yet elegant, making them an ideal appetizer or light main course. They are excellent for potluck gatherings, family dinners, or as a comforting weekend meal. Serve them hot with a dipping sauce of your choice for the best experience.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine lean ground beef, lite soy sauce, chopped cilantro, minced ginger root, cornstarch, and peanut oil. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Place 10 wonton wrappers on a clean work surface, keeping the rest covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  3. Place about 2 teaspoons of the beef filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  4. Moisten the entire edge of each wrapper with water using your finger or a brush.
  5. Lift both sides of the wrapper and pinch together above the stuffing, gathering up the edges and pleating the wrapper; pinch firmly to seal.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  7. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in each of two large skillets or steamer pans.
  8. Reduce heat to medium. Place the dumplings in the hot water/steamers, ensuring they do not touch each other.
  9. Cover lightly and steam until the dumplings are firm and the wrappers are soft and translucent, approximately 15 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Note

For best results, keep unused wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel while assembling to prevent them from drying out and cracking.

Ensure the filling mixture is well-chilled before wrapping if the kitchen is warm, as this makes the wrappers easier to handle.

Serve with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a dash of chili oil for added flavor.

Leftover dumplings can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat by steaming for 5-7 minutes.

If you prefer a richer flavor, you can substitute lite soy sauce with regular soy sauce or add a teaspoon of sesame oil to the filling.
