Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Chop the 6 oz of unsweetened chocolate into small pieces.
  3. In a saucepan, combine 6 tablespoons of butter and half of the chopped unsweetened chocolate.
  4. Melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  5. Remove from heat and allow the chocolate mixture to cool completely to room temperature.
  6. Butter a 9-inch round cake pan.
  7. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed until frothy.
  8. Gradually add the sugar and continue beating.
  9. Increase speed to high and beat until the mixture is thick and pale yellow.
  10. Reduce mixer speed to low and beat in 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla and the salt.
  11. Beat in the cooled chocolate and butter mixture until well combined.
  12. Using a spoon, gently fold in the flour until just incorporated.
  13. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  14. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the brownie pulls away from the edges of the pan and a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  15. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  16. While the brownie cools, chop the chocolate toffee candy bar into small pieces.
  17. In a small saucepan, combine the remaining unsweetened chocolate and the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter.
  18. Melt over low heat, stirring until smooth, then remove from heat.
  19. With an electric mixer on low speed, gradually beat the confectioners sugar and the remaining 1 teaspoon of vanilla into the melted chocolate mixture.
  20. Add milk one tablespoon at a time if needed to reach a spreadable consistency.
  21. Spread the frosting evenly over the top of the completely cooled brownie.
  22. Sprinkle the chopped toffee candy pieces over the frosting.
  23. Melt the white chocolate gently over low heat or in short bursts in the microwave.
  24. Using the tines of a fork, drizzle the melted white chocolate over the brownie in one direction, then the other, creating a cross-hatch pattern.

Note

Allow the brownie to cool completely before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting or sliding off.

For best texture, do not overmix the flour into the batter; fold it in gently to keep the brownies fudgy.

You can substitute the chocolate toffee bar with Heath bars or any similar chocolate-covered toffee candy.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature before serving for best flavor.

If the white chocolate seizes while melting, add a tiny drop of vegetable oil or shortening and stir vigorously to restore smoothness.
