  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add the pitted sour prunes to the boiling water, remove from heat, and let stand for 10 minutes.
  3. Return the saucepan to high heat and bring back to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, or until the prunes are tender.
  5. Pour the prunes and liquid through a sieve into a bowl, reserving the liquid.
  6. Place the softened prunes, peeled garlic clove, and chopped cilantro into a blender.
  7. Pour 1/4 cup of the reserved prune liquid into the blender.
  8. Blend on high speed until smooth.
  9. Slowly add the remaining reserved liquid while blending until all liquid is incorporated and the sauce is smooth.
  10. Transfer the blended mixture back into the saucepan.
  11. Add the salt and red pepper flakes to the saucepan.
  12. Bring the sauce to a boil over high heat.
  13. Reduce heat to low to simmer and stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  14. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  15. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
